American Counseling Association (ACA) 2014 Annual Conference Recap
Aloha! The American Counseling Association (ACA) Annual Conference was held in Honolulu, Hawaii this year March 26-April 2, 2014. As current President, Pat Nesbit, of the Wyoming Counseling Association (WCA), I attended the conference along with current Treasurer, Julie Laib. Representing Wyoming at the conference was an honor and privilege that I will never forget! Meeting ACA members from all over the world was an exciting networking opportunity. Keynote Speaker, Morgan Spurloch of Supersize Me, was an opportunity to hear his perspective on how his life was enriched by his mother who is a counselor and the memorable experiences he had growing up. So many workshops to choose from to attend! The conference was an excellent way to get up-to-date on the newest changes such as the DSM 5, ASAM, and ACA Ethics. Workshops to choose from include everything from Ethics to Best Practices to current trends in the field. I attended the Western Region annual meeting and was able to meet members from the region and put faces to names. Experiencing the rich culture of Hawaii was a treat in and of itself. Learning more about the people, traditions, culture, food, and Waikiki Beach was a plus. If you have never attended an ACA Annual Conference, consider it. You will have an enriching experience professionally and personally. The ACA Annual Conference will be held in Orlando, FL next year; consider attending!
